Legal Aid Society of Virginia (VLAS) is a non-profit law firm established in 1977 to provide free civil legal services to eligible low-income residents in Central, Southern, and Western Tidewater Virginia.

VLAS serves these communities by providing free information, advice and representation in areas such as housing, healthcare, income and benefits, family affairs, consumers and education.

They deal with education, housing, health care, public benefits, family and consumer law.

To determine if they can assist you, LawLine paralegals must screen you for eligibility.

During this short screening, they will collect demographic information, including:

• Household size
• Information about income and assets
• Carry out a required control for conflicts of interest
• Get a brief description of your legal problem.
