Description

Since 1951, the Legal Service of East Michigan (LSMS) has provided free civil legal assistance to persons living in poverty.

Its mission is to use legal skills to address the causes and effects of poverty.

Particular emphasis is placed on those issues that affect the survival needs of people on low incomes.

This work is done both reactively, by addressing individual legal needs, and proactively, by carrying out impact work that creates systemic changes that affect the poverty society as a whole.

Most of the customers served live at or below 125% of poverty.

This threshold for financial participation is higher depending on certain criteria for financing specific services.

The Flint Office serves Genesee and Lapeer counties.
