Description

Prairie State Legal Services is an organization that provides free legal services to low-income individuals and those over the age of 60 who have serious civil law problems and require legal assistance to resolve them.

The mission of Prairie State Legal Services, Inc. is to ensure equal access to justice and fair treatment under the law by providing legal advice and representation, advocacy, education and outreach that serve to protect basic human needs and enforce or defend rights.

You must meet their income and asset guidelines, or be over the age of 60.

Generally, a client is eligible if his or her household income is below 125% of the federal poverty level.

The Prairie State may be able to help people whose income is up to 200% of the poverty level if the household has certain expenses.

They do not handle criminal, immigration, personal injury, malpractice, workers' compensation, traffic violations or probate law issues.

Prairie State's standard opening hours are 8:30 am. until 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

The hours of operation of the telephone consulting service (TCS) are: 9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday.
